Sunday Under Sevens take it in their stride against Malahide

Malahide United "home of football in North County Dublin" together with their Real Madridesque motif sent their under sevens to Cabinteely on the back of impressive wins over Cabinteely and Joeys and looking for a third southside win in 2010. They started off impressively before we even began turning up with matching tracksuits, water bottles and white cones for their pre match warm up - a long way from my own youth of jumpers for goals, counting the numbers, blowing the imaginary whistle and getting on with it.
We suitably impressed them by sending on our international referree (Jason from Everton) and we were off. Jason's first decision was to scrounge a coin off me for the toss up and relegate me to the north terrace to get the balls out of the ditch.
The game got off at a lively tempo and Park Celtic from where I was standing had the lions share of the ball and territory - Cormac looking good with his two bananas on his feet, Finaly with his sparkling white chalk boots and Thomas who had taken the Ireland flag off his face from last week. Malahide were mainly on the back foot and had it not been for Celtic being unable to create space in the box there surely would have been a goal in the first half - 0-0 it stood at half time.
Christopher came out of goal in the second half with Robert between the sticks to show his watching grandfather touches that Tom Finney and Stanley Matthews would have been proud of and linked up well with the 11.15 steam locomotive from Heuston that is Oran Moloney. A slip of concentration and the United were 1 - 0 to the good due to a sucker punch counter attack and then it could have gone either way. Still Donough and Aidan switched around the personel with Hugh shoring up the defence to allow others to prosper up front. The goal came from fine passing and "go to goals" encouragement from the sideline and as with all good managerial moves, it was the Coaches son Naoise who got the final sweet shot into goal - a belter that hit the back of the onion bag.
1 -1 it finished and we have nothing to fear when we do visit the home of north Dublin football - Gannon Park - if we play the type of football shown today.
