When a coach texts after the game and calls the performance superb you know that the lads are going well in the league and a 0-0 draw was a good result. Such was last Sunday away against a well drilled Cabinteely side which had beaten us 4 -1 on the last trip to their grounds. On that occassion I noted the small goals obviously picked up from Argos and that the ground's next stop was nepal with its freezing weather - the same setting greeted us on a sunday when English fathers like myself were looking forward to the round ball variety of sport to cheer me up. Immediately I noticed that Cormac had obviously been at Twickenham as he had stolen Jamie Heaslip's yellow boots and was using them with great skill. Justice to some extent to dished out to him by playing in goal for the second half thereby putting on the yellow goalies jersey, a colour coordination even his mother would have been proud of.
To the game : On a hard pitch, with a yound ref allowing a full flowing game, it was end to end stuff with slick passing from Naoise, Robert and Christopher but just getting the final ball into one of the attackers was the only answer and shots on goal were few and far between. Golden boots Ruari was awaiting but never got into the box with a clear chance. Thomas, complete with the tricolour temporarily tattooed to his face taunting the Sunday sideline, was ever prevalent in the attack after a half under the posts. The Marshalling and Sweeping Finlay at the back bellowed out the instructions. Alas it ended 0 - 0 but was hard earned and we await Malahide United next week to come to the Park for we are in good health !
