St Valentine's day meant only one thing for the lads now that the postie doesn't deliver on Sundays - entertaining Shelbourne United at home.
The game started early due to a prompt arrival of the Shelbourne team, a well organised outfit that train twice a week and had come over the Liffey for a scalp.
Initial technical confusion reigned as the refs whistle couldn't be found (thank goodness we don't have hawkeye yet) and then we were soon off.
The games in this league are a step up in skill and tempo and the lads took this in their stride - the boggy pitch wasn't helping but Conor was industrious in attack, Naoise showing he had done his skills homework, Finlay marshalling the troops and Thomas showing great touches to set others off.
Shelbourne took the lead with a well worked goal and could have been two up had Cormac not made a Packie Bonneresque save. Park Celtic then levelled the score with Golden boots Ruari hitting the net for a desrved 1- 1 half time.
I would like to tell readers more of the game but was put off by the nomadic masai mara wonderings of Finlay's Dad Jason. So enthused with the game he walked the length of the pitch and back that I am thinking of putting a white box on the half way line to cage him in. Whilst I do that I will build stands so that Arsene Wenger and me can sit in it whilst we serve our sideline ban for cheek !!
Back to the game the Shelbourne Lads reminded me of a David Attenborough wildlife programme on baby giraffes as they were forever falling over but both sides remained resolute to the end and a draw was what both teams deserved. Park Celtic W1 D1 L0 - we'll take that for now !!
